KARACHI, June 6: Three persons, including a minor boy, died in separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Sunday. A head constable died and his colleague sustained injuries when they were hit by a speeding vehicle near Mehmoodabad traffic signal on Sharea Faisal.

Bahadurabad police identified the deceased as Mohammad Nawaz and the injured policeman, also a head constable, as Saifur Chandio, both working as wireless operators in the police communications department.

The victims were shifted to the JPMC for postmortem examination. The errant driver, Shafaat, has been arrested and his vehicle impounded, the police said. In another accident, driver of a mini-bus of U-8 route died when the vehicle overturned in Bahadurabad. Four of its passengers, Amir, Sharafat Ali, Taufiq and Kashif, were injured and taken to the JPMC for treatment.

The young driver was identified as Babar Mahmood. In the limits of the New Town police station, a four-year-old boy was killed by a hit and run vehicle. Police said that the boy, whose identity could not be ascertained immediately, was knocked down by a speeding water tanker near Sharfabad. The victim was taken to the JPMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

SHOT DEAD: Two persons were shot dead in separate incidents on Sunday. Police said that Akhlaq Ahmed, a constable in Railway Police, was shot dead by an unknown three armed men.

Akhlaq Ahmed, along with two of his colleagues, was on duty near Gulzar Masjid at the main PR office, city station, when the armed men arrived. When Akhlaq Ahmed asked about their business in the office, an exchange of hot words took place between them.

During the verbal exchange, the armed men opened fire, killing Akhlaq Ahmad, and fled from the scene. The victim was rushed to civil hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A senior official of the Railway Police is investigating the case. In Nazimabad, a man was shot dead by unknown assailants early Sunday. Police said that the victim, Mian Gul Khan, 40, was shot dead near Nadiria Hotel in Nazimabad No. 1.

He was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said that personal enmity might have been the motive for the murder.
