PESHAWAR, June 4: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal observed protest on Friday against the killing of Mufti Nizammuddin Shamzai in Karachi and subsequent incidents of violence in the city.

The workers of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F), a component of the alliance, held a protest rally in the city. The procession started from Madani mosque and ended at Bajauri Gate. MNA Qari Fayazur Rehman Alvi and other MMA leaders led the march.

The protesters, holding banners, chanted slogans against the government and demanded arrest of the killers. They also demanded that an inquiry be conducted into the Karachi killings.

Speaking on the occasion, Qari Fayaz said that the Sindh government had failed to ensure rule of law in the province. He demanded the removal of Sindh governor and chief minister.

The Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) and All Pakistan Shia Action Committee held a separate protest demonstration against the bomb blast in a Karachi Imambargah in which innocent people were killed.

The protesters shouted slogans against the US, Israel and Sindh government. They said that the US government was behind recent clashes in several parts of the country. Through a resolution, the participants of the demonstration demanded resignation of the federal and Sindh governments, removal of US military bases from Muslim countries and release of people held during clashes in Gilgit.
