LARKANA, May 25: The Medical Superintendent of Chandka Medical College Hospital has urged the Hesco authorities to supply uninterrupted power to the hospital, it was learnt on Tuesday.

Medical Superintendent Dr Shahbaig Chandio of Chandka Medical College Hospital, in a letter on May 22 addressed to the Superintendent Engineer of Hesco, Larkana circle, said that on May 20, 2004 operations in Shaikh Zayed Hospital for women were postponed due to sudden unannounced electricity failure from 8 am to 12 pm.

Again on May 21 power supply to the CMCH (City Block), administration block and casualty was suspended from 7 am to 11 am and the telephone remained off thereby cutting off the hospital from the rest of the world.

The MS further said that on May 22 the electricity remained off without any prior information from 7 am to 12.30 pm in this scorching heat. He said the indoor ward patients as well as post operative care patients suffered the most, he said, adding that cardiac patients admitted in the Cardiology Department cannot bear the situation.

He said this hospital of 1,250 beds consisted of five blocks - Teaching block, Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women, Paediatrics units (Medicine and Surgery), CMCH (city block) located at different places in the city apart from the casualty, and the administration block.

He said that more than 50 patients are operated upon for various diseases in a day here, excluding dealing the emergencies and the operation theatres work round the clock.

It was learnt on good authority that operation theatres lists were postponed continuously for three days. In the letter the MS has requested Hesco to ensure unhindered power supply to this big hospital, and also the entire supply may be kept on a single feeder in the larger interests of patients and the institution.

ENTRY TEST: The department of education announced here on Tuesdaythat 45 centres have been notified in the district for conducting entry test for the posts of high school teachers and other cadres.
