MULTAN, May 24: A local court issued on Monday a contempt of court notice to some senior officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board assigned to conduct elections for the Multan Cricket Association.

The court issued the notice on the petition of Lt-Col Manzoor Ali Ahmad (retired), the president of the Crescent Colts Cricket Club, to PCB General Manager (operations) Zakir Khan, election commissioner Javed Zaman Khan and two others.

The petitioner accused the PCB officials of violating the court orders issued on Saturday last. The court had reportedly stayed elections of the MCA to be held on May 22 on an application of the same petitioner in which he had challenged the voters' list.

The PCB election commission, however, conducted polling though it withheld announcement of the results. As many as 30 clubs had applied for registration with the MCA. The scrutiny committee, however, validated right to vote of some 23 clubs.

Interestingly, the PCB election commission awarded right to vote to four more clubs on the day of election. Sources in the MCA said in fact hardly 10 clubs were fulfilling the criterion laid down to get the association's membership to cast vote.
