KARACHI, May 23: Speakers at a rally on Sunday condemned the atrocities being committed by the occupying forces in Iraq and demanded that government in Iraq should immediately be handed over to Iraqis.

The rally was organized by the Jaferia Students' Organization to condemn the 'barbaric' acts of the US-led allied forces being committed in Iraq, particularly near the sacred shrines in Najaf and Karbala.

Allama Hassan Turabi, Allama Qambar Abbas Naqvi, Abul Fazal Sajidi, Mufti Usman Yar Khan, Hafiz Taqi, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, Maulana Mohammad Arshad and others also spoke on the occasion.

They demanded of the secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Conference to call an emergency meeting of the body to formulate a concrete future strategy to deal with the situation, or the OIC be just disbanded.

They also urged the United Nations to take steps to stop the US from committing illegal acts, urging the people of the US and the UK to carry out accountability of their governments.

They also urged the government that those involved in the terrorist acts of Quetta and Masjid-i-Haidery be brought to the book and be punished according to the law. The demonstrators were carrying banners and placards and also chanted slogans, demanding an end to American interference in Pakistan's internal matters.
