KARACHI, May 20: A sudden change in the prescribed colour- coding of water tankers, from green to light blue, has created doubts among those consuming tanker water. People have now started questioning whether water supplied by the light-blue tankers was fit for drinking purpose or not.

Although the colour of tankers supplying water for drinking purposes was supposed to be green in the light of a decision by the high court in 1994, the colour of those tankers which draw water from KWSB hydrants and which are monitored by the Rangers is nowadays being changed from green to light-blue.

Another noticeable change being witnessed these days was that the tanker owners have deleted the slogan of "Under the monitoring of Rangers" perhaps to give an impression if these tankers do not ply under rangers supervision.

Expressing surprise over sudden and unannounced changes being made in the colour of tankers supplying drinking water to the water-starved localities, sources in the KWSB said these changes were perhaps being made to avoid the circumstances which often result in tarnishing the image of Rangers when such tankers indulge in accidents owing to rash and negligent driving on the part of drivers.

It has often been seen that the drivers of tankers drawing water from the rangers-manned hydrants not only drive their vehicles beyond the fixed speed-limit but also cause damage to roads owing to their leaking nozzles.
