ISLAMABAD May 18: Prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Tuesday afternoon rang up Syed Kabir Ali Wasti, vice-president and media committee chairman of PML-Q, in an apparent effort to appease him and mend fences with the latter.

Mr Wasti told the premier that he had nothing personal against him and that whatever he had expressed was based on principles and the prime minister was well aware of that.

On Monday, Mr Wasti had complained to President Pervez Musharraf and unified league president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain about the reported protest rallies which, according to Mr Wasti, were held in Sindh against his person at the behest of the prime minister.

He had also written a letter to the president complaining against Mr Jamali's performance and what he called the PM's wrong attitude towards the PML. The copies of the letter were also published in the press.

Meanwhile, the press secretary to the prime minister, Ashfaq Gondal, when contacted to confirm if Mr Jamali had telephoned Mr Wasti told Dawn that though he (Gondal) was unaware of any such call but "if Mr Wasti claims that it was made, then it must be true."

According to a press release issued by Mr Wasti's office, the premier in his telephonic call referred to the statements made by the PML vice-president and asked him as to why was he angry with him. The press release quoted the PM as saying: "Syed Badshah! Why are you angry with me. We have no dispute and if there is any let us sit together and resolve party's affairs".

Mr Jamali in response to an invitation from Mr Wasti promised to visit him as soon as the Brunei's Sultan visit was over. In his remarks, the premier also said, "we all are Muslim Leaguers and we should avoid infighting. We have to make PML the most popular political force".

Conveying his thanks to prime minister for his telephone call, Mr Wasti said, "there's nothing personal. I have no personal dispute, rather it was a difference of opinion on certain principles about which the premier was well aware".
