DADU, May 11: A large number of activists of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, youth wing, took out a procession here on Tuesday to protest against the oil and gas companies for not providing jobs to local people and not carrying out development works in their areas.
The protesters marched on the main roads of the town and staged a demonstration at the Press Club. They were led by the senior vice-president of the PML (Q) youth wing, Shakeel Shah, and Muhammad Ibrahim Panhwar.
Speaking to the demonstrators, Shakeel Ahmed Shah said that multinational companies, the BHP and ENI, had been exploring gas and oil in Johi and Sehwan talukas since 1994 but the jobs were being given to the people of other provinces.
He recalled that some months back Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, during his visit to the BHP company, had assured that the company would supply gas free of charge to the villages located within a radius of five kilometres, but no gas connection had been provided as yet.
ARREST CRITICIZED: A large number of residents of the Chandni Chowk as well as Gharibabad and Workshop mohallas took out a procession and held a demonstration here on Monday to protest against the arrest of Mohammad Khan Chandio.
Speaking to the protesters, Ahmed Khan, Haji Sultan and Rakhial Chandio, said that some five days back, the Town police arrested Mohammad Khan following a raid on his house in the Workshop Mohalla.
Alleging that the police were torturing him, they appealed to the Dadu DPO for justice as they feared that the Town SHO might have him killed in a fake encounter. When contacted, Town SHO Nazar Mohammad Deshak said that the accused was a hardened criminal and wanted in 12 cases.
Meanwhile, the Jamshoro SHO has claimed that the Jamshoro police had arrested Mohammad Khan from the Petaro-Jamshoro road earlier on Monday while trying to rob passengers.
DEFRAUDED: Anti-corruption police have initiated an inquiry against five officials of the Dadu sub-division education department on allegations of embezzling the salaries of teachers, peons and clerks. The anti-corruption police seized relevant record on Monday and started investigations against the accused officials.
Circle officer Ayaz Ahmed Pandhiani said that assistant district education officer (male) Wahid Bakhsh Bughio was arrested some four days back on charges of robbing 25 teachers of their salaries. A case was registered against Ayaz and four others.
