LARKANA, May 2: Speakers at a seminar held here on Sunday on "division of Larkana into two districts: wrong or right" remained divided on the issue. The seminar was held under the auspices of the Earth Lovers Society.

MNAs Khalid Iqbal Memon and Mohammad Anwar Bhutto and Larkana People's Party Parliamentarians president MPA Ayaz Soomro termed the decision to divide Larkana into two districts a political bribe to a particular group.

They said that no elected representatives from Larkana had demanded the division of the district which was mandatory under the Constitution. They alleged that the government had floated the idea to create differences among the people. They also accused the government of converting Sindhis into a minority.

The South Asian Centre for Social Awareness and Development executive director Ammanullah Shaikh said that instead of focusing on creation of new districts, emphasis should be given to decentralization of powers.

He said that those who had been elected from remote areas of Kambar and Warah time and again had failed to deliver. Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader Masood Ahmad Khuhro, Larkana PML-N president Babu Sarfraz Jatoi, Ahmad Nawaz Brohi of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Zulfikar Rajpar and Faqeer Ibrahim Soomro also opposed the idea.

Abdul Hadi Chandio, Hareef Chandio, Manzoor Chandio, Mir Data Khan Chandio and some other speakers favoured the proposal of dividing the district. They said that this would benefit people of Khirthar Mountains area and Warah.
