SUKKUR, April 27: Hundreds of people attacked the Buxapur police station on Tuesday morning and freed three accused. Later, they blocked the Indus highway near Kandhkot for several hours and demanded that the entire staff of the police station be suspended for arresting three innocent people.

Taluka Nazim Kandhkot Abdul Rasool negotiated with the protesters and they opened the highway on his assurance that legal action would be taken against policemen. Mumtaz Khan Bhangwar, the brother of landlord Ahmed Ali Bhangwar, Ayaz Bhangwar and Abdul Karim Bhangwar were arrested by the Buxapur police while they were on their way to an examination centre.

As the information of their arrest reached in Bhangwar village, hundreds of people assembled in front of the police station and attacked it. The policemen on duty fled from the station and attackers freed the accused who were arrested on charges of looting.

OPERATION: Police killed four alleged dacoits, injured 25 others, recovered two vehicles, and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition during a 19-day operation, Sukkur District Police Officer Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh said on Tuesday at a press conference at his office.

He said that the operation in Alif Katcho and Shah Belo forests of Sukkur and Shikarpur districts would continue till each and every dacoit in the area was eliminated. He claimed that an early-morning encounter took place in Qadirpur and Raza village police stations jurisdictions during which 10 alleged dacoits were arrested.
