NAWABSHAH, April 21: Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar has said that he has no objection to construction of big dams but they must be constructed with a consensus of the four provinces. He was talking to a delegation of the Nawabshah Press Club here on Wednesday after offering condolence to his adviser on political affairs Ghulam Rasool Unnar on the death of his wife in Khadar.
The chief minister said that Sindh would get its due share in the National Finance Commission award and people of the province would soon hear a good news in this regard. He denied reports regarding extension in his cabinet and said that there was no such plan in the near future.
Answering a question, he said that the Sindh government was smoothly running and had full support of its allies including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. He claimed that law and order situation in the province had improved and warned that nobody would be allowed to disturb it. He said that the operation against bandits would continue in upper Sindh.
To another question, the chief minister said that his government had fulfilled promises about providing jobs to people as recruitment of in some departments, including police and health, had started. He added that 35,000 vacancies would be filled
Mr Mahar said that his government had reinstated employees of who had been sacked by previous governments. He said that the press was enjoying freedom and as press clubs were independent institutions, no political interference would be allowed in their affairs.
The chief minister ordered an inquiry into the affairs of the Nawabshah Press Club and directed the regional police officer, Sukkur, to send him a detailed report. Sindh Minister for Zakat and Ushr Irfan Gul Magsi, Sukkur RPO Rahu Khan Brohi, Syed Ahmed Shah Lakyari and other Pakistan Muslim League(Q) workers were present on the occasion.
DEMO: A large number of men, women and children on Monday staged a demonstration outside the press club against the police failure to arrest the murderers of Soomar Brohi.
Mr Brohi was killed a couple of weeks back on the Mehrabpur road near Sakrand.
WALK: The health department organized an anti-polio walk on Monday to create awareness about polio. It started from the DC high school and after passing through different roads ended outside the press club.
Activists of Citizens Action Committee, Takhleeq Foundation and lady workers of health department joined the walk. Speaking on the occasion, EDO health Dr Hajan Shah and Sindh Unicef coordinator Dr Wahid said that struggle against polio would continue till its eradication.
OBITUARY: The wife of Ghulam Rasool Unnar, adviser to Sindh chief minister on political affairs passed away in the PMC hospital on Monday. She was 55. She was laid to rest in the family graveyard in Khadar near Sakrand.
