NAWABSHAH, April 6: Sindh High Court Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad has said that efforts are being made to eradicate corruption in judiciary. He said this while talking to journalists after laying the foundation stone of a judicial complex in the district and sessions court premises here on Tuesday.
Justice Ashhad said that 18 judicial officers had been removed and compulsorily retired on charges of corruption and several cases were under investigation. He said that this was a good exercise as officers had now realized that there was a check on them.
The Chief Justice said that he had directed for removal of hurdles in the disposal of cases. Justice Attaur Rehman, district and sessions judge, Syed Zakir Hussain Shah, additional district and session judge, Ahmad Saba, DCO and the DPO were also present on the occasion.
Our Sanghar Correspondent adds: Justice Ashhad laid the foundation stone of courts of judicial magistrates in the compound of the sessions court here on Tuesday.
He called upon judges for early disposal of cases. He also advised lawyers to come prepared and study the briefs well before attending courts to ensure early disposal of cases. The Chief Justice said that efforts should be made to bring under-trial prisoners for hearing on specified dates. He also attended a luncheon hosted by the District Bar Association at the local rest house.
SIT-IN: A group of women staged a sit-in outside the A-section police station here on Monday night, demanding release of a member of paramedical staff of the People's Medical College Hospital.
The protesters were raising slogans against the medical superintendent of the hospital and police. They demanded immediate release of the man, Sawan Makrani.
TELEGRAMS: Telegrams to different departments and people are not being delivered by the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, Nawabshah, due to non-availability of paper rolls.
When contacted, an official of the PTCL customer services centre said they could not receive or deliver telegrams as they had not received page rolls and fax rolls from the chief superintendent office, Sukkur for the last 10 days.
