ISLAMABAD, March 29: Former Chairman, All Parties Hurriyat Conference, (APHC), Abdul Ghani Bhat on Monday said the organization is struggling for an acceptable solution of Kashmir dispute and not for elections or power.

"Our struggle is focused in greater interest of the Kashmiri people and participating in elections or power sharing will not serve this purpose", Mr Bhat told ARY Television.

He said it is also in greater interest of the people in Pakistan and India that an acceptable, honourable and sustainable solution of Kashmir dispute is found. He said APHC longs for good India-Pakistan relations and is even willing to play its role whatsoever in this regard.

He said the organization represents the wishes and sentiments of Kashmiris and the same is being discussed with the Indian leaders during meetings. Mr Bhat said solution of Kashmir is the only guarantee for the progress and prosperity in the region.

This reality is presently being felt domestically, regionally and internationally, he added. "I will not use the word pressure but there is a general global will that the issue of Kashmir is resolved peacefully", he said.

He said wars have never been a solution of the issues rather they are resolved at the negotiation table. Replying to a question he said APHC has no intention to participate in Indian Parliamentary elections and its leadership has expressed this position about a month ago. -APP
