THATTA, March 28: Social welfare and health organizations should inform people, particularly villagers, about importance of preventive measures to control the spread of diseases.

This was said by a former judge of the Supreme Court, Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim, at the inauguration ceremony of the Al-Shifa Hospital here on Sunday. The hospital has been established by the Qadir Bux Bhutto Trust.

Mr Ibrahim, who is also chairman of an NGO, INFAQ, said people of rural areas had little knowledge about effects of contaminated water and it was necessary to create awareness among them about water-borne diseases.

He announced grant of Rs500,000 on behalf of his NGO and Rs100,000 from himself for the hospital. He praised advocate Qadir Bux Bhutto for his social services.

Sirajul Haq Memon donated Rs100,000 for the hospital and Pakistan Kidney Foundation chairman Dr Jafar Naqvi donated medicines and a dialysis machine for the hospital. Justice (Rtd) Abdul Hafeez Memon presided over the event.
