ISLAMABAD, March 26: Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Irshad Hasan Khan on Friday said that nobody had approached the Jhang registration officer for the correction of voters' list in pursuant to the Lahore Hugh Court order.

"The assistant election commissioner/registration officer has categorically informed the Chief Election Commissioner that neither the petitioner, Qamar Abbas, nor Prof (Dr) Tahirul Qadri or any other person pursuant to the orders of high court passed in writ petition No 3971 of 2004, has so far approached him for seeking any further correction," an announcement by Commission said.

It said the process of annual revision of electoral rolls was still continuing and the registration officers, if approached for correction of the same, would take necessary action.

The announcement said the revising authorities in Jhang on the applications of certain persons had directed the registration officer that steps should be taken for deletion of repeated entries of a voter which had been inadvertently crept in the electoral rolls in MC Charge 18 and 20 of Jhang.

It said the CEC appointed eight additional assistant registration officers to assist the Election Commissioner for locating and deleting the double entries.

The assistant election commissioner/registration officer, Jhang, has reported that the orders passed by the revising authorities have been implemented by correcting the electoral rolls.

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Irshad Hasan Khan on Friday reminded the presiding officers conducting by-elections on March 28 not to allow any voter to cast his vote twice.

The CEC in a statement on Friday said the presiding officers have been asked to ensure that any citizen who wanted to exercise his right of vote should be in possession of identity card.

The presiding officer should check the number and name of the voter as entered in the electoral rolls before issuing him ballot paper. The name of the voter who is issued ballot paper be struck off from the electoral roll by the polling officer.

Indelible ink must be applied to the right hand thumb of the voter and the ballot paper be stamped with the official mark on its back and signed by the assistant presiding officer concerned.

The CEC directed the presiding officers to write down the number of voter on the counterfoil of the ballot paper. The polling will start at 8am and will continue till 5pm without any break. The presiding officer have been vested with the powers of magistrate first class to guard against any irregularity at the polling station.
