KARACHI, March 25: Rivalry between two gangs operating in Lyari claimed the life of an alleged extortionist on Thursday, police said. They said that 35-year-old Murad, who belonged to the gang of Arshad Puppoo , had come to Chakiwara along with three accomplices to extort money from inter-city bus operators. Members of the rival gang, headed by Rahman Dacoit, gunned him down.

The police said that Murad was wanted in at least six cases. A 20-year-old girl, Kishwar Naz, committed suicide by shooting herself on Thursday in Landhi, Lane 23, old Muzaffarabad, the police said, adding that her body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons died in separate accidents in the city on Thursday. The police said a speeding mini-bus, A-3, on Thursday ran over a roadside cobbler in Baldia Town.

The body of the cobbler, believed to be over 50 years old, was sent to the Edhi Centre for identification, they said, adding that the bus had been taken into custody.

The police said that 26-year-old Mohammad Anwar was crushed to death when floor bags at a floor mill in Nazimabad, Block 4, fell on him in the early hours of Thursday.

ARREST: The police said they raided a place in Frontier Colony in Pirabad on Thursday and arrested Farmanullah and Javed with at least one maund of charas, contained in sugar bags. They added that the accused had recently come from the NWFP.
