KARACHI, March 23: Sindh President of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) Maulana Asadullah Bhutto has said that due to the government's certain measures, integrity and security of the country was facing a threat. He has accused the rulers of conspiring to make Pakistan a secular state, only to appease the United States.

"But we warn the government of a strong protest movement to be launched if Quranic verses and other chapters regarding the Islamic values are not restored in the syllabus of Biology in class IX."

Maulana Bhutto was addressing the Ulema-Mashaikh Convention held here on Tuesday under the auspices of the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) to discuss the omission of Quranic verses from textbooks.

Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, Chairman of the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Munibur Rehman, IJT's Karachi Nazim Syed Tahir Akbar, Maulana Hasan Turabi and Maulana Abul Rauf also spoke on the occasion.

Maulana Bhutto described secularism as a threat to the entire world, and not only Muslims. Mufti Shamzai stressed the need for exposing the hidden objectives behind the government's move.

He was of the view that the steps were being taken at the behest of Zionists and western powers and the motive was to scrapping religious fervour from the hearts of students.

He expressed the fear that the entire nation would face the consequences of the move to omit Quranic verses from syllabus. Mufti Munib deplored that education had become the biggest industry in Pakistan.

He condemned omission of Quranic verses from syllabus and approval of the Agha Khan Education Board in strong terms saying both the moves were dangerous for Islam. - PPI
