KARACHI, March 18: In a major development, a number of senior KWSB officials have either been transferred or promoted to the rank of deputy managing directors or relieved of their additional charges.

Besides, KWSB's finance adviser Munawar Hussain, who was working on a contract basis, has been relieved of his services with immediate effect. An officer order (dated March 15) having signatures of KWSB's managing director/executive district officer, Brig Asif Ghazali, said that pursuant to the directives issued by KWSB's chairman (vide Nazim/KWSB/Secy/ 5190/2004 dated 8.3.2004, transfers/postings have been made with immediate effect in the interest of departmental working.

According to the order, Munawar Hussain, who is working as adviser (Finance) on contract basis, has been relieved of his post with immediate effect and in his place KWSB Director (Accounts), Pir Zaman Shah, has been asked to look after the work of deputy managing director (finance) in addition to his own duties till further orders without prejudice to right of regular promotion and seniority.

It further said that KWSB's Deputy Managing Director (Recovery and resource generation), Syed Akhlaq Hussain, has been relieved of his additional charge of DMD (Human resource development and administration).

Director (Billing and recovery), Arshad Jamal, who is presently working as liaison officer, has been directed to look after the work of DMD (Human resource development and administration) in addition to his own duties till further orders without prejudice to right of regular promotion and seniority.

It was, however, interesting to note that though the office order which was signed by Brig Ghazali on March 15, a day before his transfer to Pakistan National Guards, it has been made public on Thursday (March 18).

Almost a similar order was issued in the middle of January whereby the contract of KWSB's financial adviser was terminated and DMD (Planning) Shahid Saleem was asked to take over the finance department in addition to his own duties; services of Chief Engineer Khalid Malik were placed at the disposal of the City Nazim Secretariat (Tameer-i-Karachi Programme) and in his place Superintending Engineer (sewerage) Asudomal was made Chief Engineer (Water distribution); CDGK's District Officer (Local Taxes), Najamuddin Sikandar was made KWSB's DMD (HRD&A), relieving DMD (HRD&A/RRG) Akhlaq Hussain of his additional charge and CDGK's DO (Recovery) Rehan Khan was given additional charge of DO (local taxes).

However, January's order was implemented partly as except those orders which related to the posting of chief engineer (Water Distribution) and CDGK's DO (Local Taxes), others were kept in abeyance by the competent authorities.

However, in the recent development, the CDGK's former district officer (Local Taxes), Najamuddin Sikandar, has been appointed DO (Land) in place of Masood Jaffery who has retired and Zafar Ahsan has been posted as DO in the CDGK's media management group of offices.

Meanwhile, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has sent a summary to the Sindh chief secretary through additional chief secretary (Local government), recommending names of KWSB's DMD (Planning) Shahid Saleem, secretary environment department Shujaat Ali Qarni and the CDGK's former executive district officer (Revenue) and also a former deputy commissioner (Central), Javed Hanif, for the post of managing director, KWSB, that has fallen vacant following the transfer of Brig Ghazali to Pakistan National Guards.
