SAHIWAL, March 3: Lawyers will take out a protest procession on Thursday against the Sahiwal police for their failure to trace the killers of two of their colleagues.

This was announced on Wednesday by District Bar Association president Mehr Qutubuddin, Punjab Bar Council former member Iftikhar Khawar, secretary Farrukh Hamid and others at a press conference here.

They said Rana Sultan Alam and Rashid Anwar were murdered in their houses on Feb 14 and 25, respectively, but the police failed to find a clue or arrest the killers.

They strongly condemned the police and demanded immediate transfer of the district police officer. They were also critical of district Nazim Rai Hasan Nawaz. They appealed to the federal and provincial governments to take immediate action otherwise they would go on strike.

HOUSE ROBBED: Six masked bandits robbed the house of a retired teacher in Chak 100-A/6-R and took away cash and valuables worth Rs240,000. The gang entered the house of Inayatullah and locked the family in a room. Later, they collected valuables and fled from the scene firing shots in the air. Harappa police have registered a case.

CONDEMNED: The Quetta and Mandi Bahauddin incidents are the evidences of failure of the government. This was stated by Punjab MMA president Hafiz Idrees and Punjab Jamaat-i-Islami amir Liaquat Baloch while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.

They appealed to the ARD leaders to shun the policy of confrontation and try to strengthen the opposition instead. The government has failed on internal and international fronts.

Price hike and unemployment has become a serious crisis, they added. Earlier, they visited the house of Kissan Board member the late Bashir Ahmad and condoled his death with his family.
