KHAIRPUR, Feb 25: About 20 union council Nazims of the PPP- backed Awam Dost Penal have condemned the Sindh chief minister's order to cancel 120 development schemes of the district.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Syed Amjad Ali Shah, Mumtaz Hussain Sehto and others said that the chief minister was for entire Sindh but he had become a party against the People's Party Parliamentarian-backed Nazims.

They termed the cancellation of the Annual Development Programme schemes an insult to the district council which had recommended the projects. They said that the schemes included those presented by the council members opposed to the ADP district Nazim, Nafisa Shah.

The UC Nazims said that a drive of political revenge against the ADP Nazims of Khairpur was under way and such interference by the chief minister was aimed at paralyzing the district government.

They said that Nazims too were elected representatives like MPAs or MNAs and added if the latter wanted to take up development work in their areas, they should resign and context Nazims' elections.

They said if the order was not taken back, they would call a meeting of the district council to discuss the issue.

BRIDGE: The Sindh minister for communication, Arbab Ghulam Raheem on Wednesday said that two locations had been finalized to construct a bridge over the River Indus between Larkana and Khairpur districts.

Talking to newsmen at the Circuit House, he said a proposal in this connection had been sent to the federal government for experts' opinion. The minister said instructions had also been issued to the officials concerned to conduct a survey for the construction of two more bridges over the Indus river, one at Sann in Dadu district and another at Sujawal in Thatta district.

He said the government was not interfering in the affairs of district governments in the province. The minister urged the political parties to work together for the development and do not make construction of roads an issue because if roads were constructed they would be equally useful for all.

Replying to a question regarding the Khokhrapar route, he said that it should be reopened because it would be beneficial for the people of Sindh. The minister was briefed about the construction of roads in the district and schemes approved by the district government.

District Nazim Nafisa Shah briefed the minister about schemes approved by the district council. The minister said problems regarding schemes of Awam Dost Panel had been discussed with the Sindh chief minister.

MPA Begum Gulzar Unnar said substandard material was used in the construction of road in the district and demanded enquiry into the matter. The minister ordered an inquiry regarding usage of material in the construction of roads.
