ATTOCK, Feb 23: Union council members continued their criticism of National Commission for Human Development's performance at the district council session held on Monday.

Sarwala Union Council Nazim Sher Ahmed Naeem said the NCHD failed to implement its programmes aimed at providing quality education and health care facilities to the masses.

The Nazim said he was not allowed to inspect a feeder school established by the commission. Public representatives are not aware of the commission's activities and performance as only the NCHD officials are allowed to visit different projects launched by it, he added.

Kot Fateh Khan Union Council Nazim Sardar Fateh Khan told the house that lack of coordination between the NCHD and local communities gave rise to misconceptions.

He asked the NCHD to take positive and result-oriented steps to ensure uplift of education and health sectors. Farmuli Union Council Nazim Malik Asghar said the commission should provide a report on its one-year performance to the members of all the 72 union councils in the district.

In response of these complaints, the NCHD general manager, Attock, said communication gap between the local communities and the commission caused confusion about the NCHD's functioning. However, this gap will be bridged with the involvement of district council members and local Nazims, he added.

The general manager also offered apology to Sher Ahmed Naeem for the attitude of the NCHD officials when the Nazim visited the feeder school. He said the NCHD would always welcome positive criticism and suggestions of the communities as these help enhance the working of the commission.

Convener Malik Sameen Khan asked the members to coordinate with the NCHD to ensure successful implementation of the commission's programmes. The members also criticized the increase in transport fares on various routes.
