KARACHI: Policeman dies in shootout

KARACHI, Feb 23: A police official died in an encounter with armed men in Shah Faisal Colony late Sunday night. Shah Faisal Town Police Officer Asif Ajaz told Dawn that on an information that some armed men were roaming around near Natha Khan goth, ASI Daulat Khan and head constable Imam Ali Shah were sent to the area.

Seeing the two policemen coming on motorcycle, the two suspects opened fire at the police injuring Imam Ali with a bullet in the leg. When Daulat Khan tried to grab the suspects, he was hit by a pistol but in the head.

However, he managed to caught Chenzeb and recovered a TT pistol and three rounds from his possession. His accomplice Javed managed to escape. The head constable was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead due to profuse bleeding.

Imam Ali had sustained the bullet in his thigh- which according to the doctors had damaged a main artery, causing excessive loss of blood, the TPO added. The victim hailed from Larkana and left behind four children.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead in Korangi Industrial Area on Monday. Police said that Mohammad Idrees, 27, was sleeping in his house in Korangi No.5-1/2 when two armed men entered his house; shot him dead and fled. His body was shifted to the JPMC for postmortem.

The victim was a construction worker. Police attributed some personal enmity as a possible motive behind the killing. In Malir, police killed an unidentified bandit who, according to the police, was stealing cattle heads on Monday morning.

Police claimed to have returned the cattle heads to their owner. The bandit's body was shifted to the JPMC for autopsy.
