MULTAN, Feb 6: The Punjab government has exempted fifth and eighth class students from paying examination fee, but fixed nominal fee for private students of these classes. "No fee for examination of class V and VIII will be charged from candidates of the government schools.

However, private sector schools will pay examination fee at the rate of Rs50 per candidate for class VIII and Rs 25 per candidate for class V," says a notification issued by the Special Secretary (schools) Hassan Nawaz Tarar to all the EDOs (education) and DEOs across the Punjab.

The examinations for these classes will begin in the province this month. It will be the first examination to be conducted by the government involving all private school candidates across the Punjab.

The participation of private school students has been declared necessary in examinations under the government's supervision for their further continuation of education at government schools from sixth class level.

Meanwhile, EDO (education) Prof Nazir Ahmad Chaudhry has asked all the heads of private schools to submit list of elective subjects their students have studied so that question papers be provided to centres concerned.

He has also asked them to get roll number slips from the offices of the DEO (secondary and elementary) after depositing fee by Feb 11. -APP
