FAISALABAD, Feb 1: The district and sessions judge on Saturday vacated stay granted by a civil court about toll tax paving the way for contractors to charge fee from motorists.

The district government challenged the stay order issued by the civil judge against the collection of toll tax from five main roads of the district. Suspending the lower court orders, the DSJ allowed the district government to collect the toll from the roads till Feb 24, the date for arguments.

After a tug of war between the members of the district government, the matter was referred to a special committee of the councillors to settle the issue.

water tariff: A civil court stayed on Saturday collection of increased water tariff by Wasa and summoned the officials concerned on Jan 13. The All-Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association had moved the court, claiming that Wasa authorities had enhanced water tariff by 40 per cent without fulfilling legal requirements.

The counsel claimed that under the Development of City Act 1976, Wasa was bound to take into confidence citizens before implementation of any such scheme. After hearing the arguments of the lawyer, the judge restricted Wasa from collecting increased water supply bills till the next date of hearing. It may remembered that Wasa had increased water tariff for residential, commercial and industrial consumers by 40 per cent.
