KARACHI, Jan 29: Four policemen were put behind bars in the police station their own, after a case was registered against them under the new Police Order on Thursday.

Town police officer, North Nazimabad, Sultan Khawaja, told Dawn that a suspect, Riaz, was apprehended by the Taimuria police with drugs. The TPO had issued orders to lodge an FIR against the suspect. However, on Thursday, when he made an inquiry into the case, he was informed that the suspect had escaped.

Consequently, the TPO ordered the registration of a case (331/2001) against the four policemen of the Taimuria police station. The policemen, who were arrested, were, Azeem Baloch, Abdul Qadeer Tanoli, Azhar and Rauf.

In a subsequent raid, the police rearrested the suspect and recovered drugs from his possession, the police added. A conductor of a coach died and 12 passengers, including four women, were injured in a road accident at Shaheed-i-Millat Road on Thursday.

Police said that due to slippery road conditions caused by light rain, the coach (PE-2152) overturned while taking a turn near the Faiz-i-Aam Hospital. They said that the conductor, Allah Nawaz, 25, died on the spot.
