KARACHI: Man shot dead near CM House

KARACHI, Jan 28: An employee of Pakistan Railway was shot dead by unknown persons on Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road in a high- security zone, where the US Consulate and the Chief Minister House are located, on Wednesday night.

Police said that Ali Mardan, 40, was going in a rickshaw when unknown persons on a motorcycle shot him and fled, near Karachi Club. The rickshaw driver took the injured to the Civil Hospital where Ali Mardan was pronounced dead. However, the driver managed to escape from the hospital, police said.

Hospital sources said that an identity card of Railway City Station was recovered from the victim's pocket through which he was identified. Police were investigating the case and the motive behind the murder could not be ascertained immediately.

KILLED: A property dealer was killed in his house in Keamari. The Jackson police said that three persons barged into the house of Bazeer Khan, 50, in Bhutta Village. They axed Khan to death while he was asleep. Following the incident, the attackers escaped. The victim's widow lodged an FIR with the Jackson police station against unknown persons.

ACCIDENT: A man died in an accident in Orangi Town on Wednesday. Police said that Mohammad Shaheen, 25, was sleeping beneath a parked bus in the limits of Pakistan Bazar police post when the driver started the bus crushing the young man. The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination.

SUICIDE: A young housewife committed suicide in Nusrat Bhutto Colony on Wednesday. Police said that Samina, 25, in a fit of depression ended her life by hanging. They shifted her body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities. Police could not immediately ascertain the cause behind her suicide.

DROWNED: A young man drowned in the sea off Ormara, Balochistan, on Wednesday. Edhi sources said that a group of about 40 people from Hub and Karachi had gone on a fishing trip. Near Ormara, their boat capsized after hitting a rock in the sea.

Some fishermen, who were present in a close proximity where the incident took place, rescued the youths from the water. However, Abdul Hakim, 28, who had come from Hub could not be rescued. Later, his body was recovered and sent to his native town of Hub.

INJURED: A student escaped a major injury when a bullet brushed his head in North Nazimabad on Tuesday. Police said that a group of students, present outside a private school, were having a chat following their exams. A private security guard posted nearby asked the boys to keep quite and disperse. However, the students ignored him and continued with their discussion, police added.

After getting furious, the security guard opened fire at the students slightly injuring Mohammad Noman, 17, a student of Class X. The boy was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was provided treatment. Following the incident, the security guard escaped.
