FAISALABAD, Jan 22: Punjab Minister for Baitul Maal Ejaz Shafi has said the district committees would be finalized throughout the province next week. The minister said at a meeting with the local officials held here at the circuit house on Thursday that after the formation of provincial Baitul Maal Council, the appointment of ameen would also be made.

He said a comprehensive strategy had been prepared by the provincial government to ensure transparent implementation of welfare projects and fair utilization of funds.

He said in the past a secondary status was given to Punjab Baitul Maal which resulted in shortage of funds. Now by setting up a separate ministry, the chief minister had strengthened the department.

Mr Shafi said wealthy people, philanthropists and other donor agencies were being contacted to generate funds. It would be provided to the districts by the provincial body keeping in view the proportion of population.

District Nazim Zahid Nazir told Mr Shafi that in the light of the policy of the provincial government, the names of the members would be recommended within three days for the representation in the district Baitul Maal committees.

EDO (community) Shabbir Ahmad told the minister that during the last financial year and up to November, 2003, Rs8.273 million had been disbursed of which Rs2.212 million were given to NGOs.
