SARGODHA, Jan 16: Incidents of robbery are alarmingly on the rise in and around the city as the police have miserably failed to check the crime.

Four unidentified bandits snatched Rs97,000 from Rafaqat and then shot him dead when he tried to hold them out near Wagowal, some five kilometres from the city.

Armed robbers deprived Shahid of his motorcycle and Rs10,000 in cash when he came out of a bank on Fatima Jinnah Road. The robbery incident occurred in the broad daylight and nobody ventured to challenge the culprits.

ONE KILLED: One passenger was killed while 21 others suffered serious injuries in an accident on Lahore-Sargodha Road on Friday. A speeding trailer (BLA-493) crashed into a Lahore-bound bus (BAS-173) near the Industrial Estate. As a result, Munir of Lahore died on the spot while 21 others sustained serious wounds. Police are going into the matter.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: At least 510,195 children up to five years of age will be administered anti-polio drops during a two-day campaign which is likely to be launched on Jan 20.

EDO (Health) Dr Mazhar Rasheed said that 28 zones had been constituted where 1,030 teams would administer polio drops to the children at their door-step. Around 165 teams would remain present at various hospitals and rural health centres while 45 mobile teams would set up their camps at different bus stands, he added.
