MULTAN, Jan 1: The local Anti-Corruption Establishment has recommended a regular inquiry into the alleged irregularities committed by the Bahauddin Zakariya University Vice-Chancellor in postings , appointments and construction work.

In a letter to the ACE director general on Thursday, it was said that prima facie the allegations levelled against the VC by not other than the faculty of Engineering and Technology dean of the same university held water and needed to be probed thoroughly.

When contacted, ACE assistant director (investigations) Aftab Pirzada said his department would need approval from the Punjab governor for investigation against the VC.

He said the complainant had submitted his content statement about the complaint along with supporting documents and a thorough study of them all suggested that there should be a regular inquiry into the matter. It was further learnt that the ACE authorities had sought reply from the VC on the allegations and found it unsatisfactory.

BZU's Engineering faculty dean Dr Akhtar Ali Malik had reportedly accused VC Dr Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry of large scale irregularities in the university affairs, including misuse of powers, illegal 150 appointments, award of contracts to a firm already blacklisted by an inquiry committee of the university and accumulation of assets beyond the known sources of income.
