KARACHI, May 16: Residents of some parts of Lyari have been facing an acute water shortage for the past two months.

The most affected areas are: Ali Mohammad Mohallah, Hingorabad Juma Baloch Road, Rexer Lane, Gul Mohammad Lane, Darayabad lane, Baloch Para, Noor Elahi Road and some parts of Bihar Colony.

The residents of affected areas complained that despite repeated requests to the KWSB for the restoration of normal water, no step had been taken so far to improve water supply.

The Lyari Town administration officials admitted that the water supply situation in several parts of the town had been persisting for the past two months.

The Naib Nazim of the Town, Malik Mohammad Khan, said ever since they have taken over, there are almost daily complaints about water shortage.

According to him, more than 20 meetings had been held in which decisions were taken but were not implemented.

He said an assurance was given by the KWSB recently to provide water to Hingorabad and Juma Baloch Road through water tankers, but they failed to honour their commitment.

Town Nazim Abdul Khalique Jumma has also submitted a presentation to the KWSB MD regarding water crisis in Lyari.

The presentation says that the senior KWSB officers never visit the area and it appears that their link is lost with the concerned staff. Thus, people of this area have been left to suffer.
