LAHORE, Feb 3: A 67th-minute goal by Shabbir Ahmed helped Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to hold Army to a 3-3 draw in the 56th National Hockey Championship’s final round here at the National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

In other matches, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) registered a 3-0 triumph over Railways and Navy earned a 2-1 win against Punjab.

Army took an early lead when Mohammad Imran converted a penalty-stroke in the seventh minute. But SSGC levelled through a penalty-corner converted by Majid Khan in the 15th minute.

Shakeel Abbasi brought SSGC 2-1 ahead, scoring a field goal in the 20th minute. The slim lead remained in order till half time.

After resumption of play, Army forged ahead 3-2 as Imran and Afzal converted a penalty-stroke and short-corner in the 61st and 62nd minute, respectively, before Shabbir hit a goal in the final stages to avoid defeat.

HBL led the first half 2-0 against Railways.

Mohammad Zubair presented a 2-0 lead to the bankers as he converted two penalty-corners in the third and 28th minutes.

Ejaz Rasool’s field goal in the 62nd minute completed the tally.

Bilal put Navy 1-0 ahead, scoring a field goal against Punjab. Naseem found the target in the 50th minute to double the lead before Rashid scored the solitary goal for Punjab to reduce the margin.

In the tray championship, Police defeated Capital Territories 11-2 after leading the first half by 3-2, Sindh defeated Balochistan 2-1 and PTV defeated NWFP 4-1.

There will be seven more matches in the final round and tray championship on Wednesday.

Final Round: PIA v Railways; HBL v Punjab; Army v Navy; NBP v Wapda.
