KARACHI: Gita translation launched

KARACHI, Jan 25: Members of the Hindu community have been urged to follow the teachings of their holy book, the Bhagavad Gita, to gain peace in their lives and eternal blessing after death.

The community’s prominent leaders were addressing a function held here on Sunday to launch the newly published translation of Bhagavad Gita.

This is the first time that the Gita has been printed with its Urdu and English translations locally.

The function was organised by the Gita Art Publications Welfare Trust and Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) at the Swami Narayan Temple on M.A. Jinnah Road.

The speakers stressed that though the community was playing its due role in almost every field of life and contributing to the development and progress of the country, it could still perform better if more opportunities were provided to the community members.

On the translation, they said that as the number of people who could read the Sanskrit scripture was shrinking and particularly the younger generation was almost entirely unable to read it, the publishers felt the need that its translations be done in English and Urdu so that the Gita could be read and understood by the majority of the people.

On the occasion members of the community sang Bhajans (religious songs) while cultural dances were also performed.

A few scenes from the Gita were also enacted for the audience.

Mohan Lal, Chanderkant Hatwal of the trust, Asarmal Manglani of the PHC, Pandit Bansilal, Ravi Maharaj, Harijeewan Parmar, and others also spoke at the launch.
