KARACHI, Dec 21: Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi Prof Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui has called for conducting research in accordance with the country’s requirements.

Speaking as chief guest at the Science Conference, organised by the KU physics department on Saturday in connection with its golden jubilee, Prof Siddiqui highlighted the importance of education and research in physics in the advancement of science and technology.

Pointing out that the country was facing a serious energy crisis, he said Sindh had a long coastline favourable for setting up windmills, and this could help overcome the crisis. He also suggested manufacturing of solar energy panels in the country for the purpose.

“The seats of higher learning around the world are concentrating on inventions with a view to achieve self-reliance,” he observed, adding that public universities of Pakistan should focus on research that could help the country meet its requirements.

This would not only help boost the country’s economy but would also create better opportunities of higher education, research and livelihood, he added.—APP
