KOHAT, Dec 6: NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has exhorted extremist elements to stop playing in the hands of enemies of the country, who wanted to disgrace Islam.

Addressing the 14th annual parents’ day ceremony at Garrison Cadet College Kohat on Saturday, he hoped that Pakistan would not only survive but soon emerge as stronger country from the current crises. He said that some elements wanted to destabilise Pakistan and their sinister plan was destined to fail.

He advised the students to concentrate on their curricular and co-curricular activities because they were the hope for a better Pakistan. He said that the government was giving equal attention to education in the tribal as well as settled areas for bringing about a positive change in the society.

Earlier, college principal Brig (retired) Tariq Saeed presented the annual performance report to the chief guest.

A large number of parents, guests and mediapersons could not attend the function due to security arrangements. The NWFP governor's scheduled visit to the college became a bane for the guests and parents as well as mediapersons who were kept waiting outside the building for clearance to enter the venue. Even the women were subjected to body search despite having invitation cards issued by the college administration.

Therefore, most of the people returned without attending the function. The governor also disappointed the college administration which spent huge money on the function by not announcing any grant.

Police and intelligence persons remained on high alert for a week making security arrangements for the visit of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti to Cadet College and that of the NWFP governor's to the Garrison Cadet College on successive days.
