KARACHI, Nov 29: Two people were killed in acts of violence in separate parts of the city on Saturday.

The body of an 18-year-old man was found at a desolate place near Mai Hawwa Goth at Orangi No 111/2.

The Pakistan Bazaar police said that the victim, Mohammed Abid, alias Raja, had been missing since Friday evening.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where sources said that the victim was stabbed to death. They said the body also bore several marks of severe torture.

The police said that victim was an idler and his father a factory worker.

A murder case (FIR 483/2008) against unknown culprits was registered on the complaint of the victim’s father, Mohammed Sabir.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man was shot dead at his under-construction house at Bhitaiabad.

The Sachal police said that the victim, Yousuf Masih, son of Amir Masih, was a sanitary worker at the Pakistan Steel Mills.

They said that he was shot dead at his house some time in the small hours of Saturday.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Hospital where sources said the victim was shot a single bullet that went through his skull.

The police registered a case (FIR 756/2008) against unknown culprits under Section 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s son, Khalid Masih.

Gangs busted

Seven members of two gangs, involved in kidnapping of minor children of businessmen for ransom, have been arrested in separate operations conducted jointly by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee.

The AVCC chief, SSP Farooq Awan, accompanied by deputy CPLC chief Shaukat Suleman, told a press conference on Saturday that the raiding team also seized Rs2 million from the arrested suspects, who also included two women.

He said that one of the gangs had kidnapped a two-year-old daughter of a garment factory owner on Nov 24 and demanded Rs20 million for her release.

The SSP said that the victim’s maid was involved in the kidnapping. “The maid’s aunt was also involved,” he added.

He said that the culprits extorted Rs2 million from the victim’s family before they released her on Nov 26.

The SSP said that the suspects were tracked down and the house maid, Samreen, and her aunt, Yasmeen, were arrested at Mohajir Camp, and the prime suspects, Sohail and Javed, were arrested in Boat Basin area. “The ransom money was also seized from them,” he added.

He said in another operation, the police arrested three suspected kidnappers and recovered from them a six-year-old kidnapped boy.
