HYDERABAD, Nov 26: A police picket will be set up inside the city’s Civil Hospital for round-the-clock vigilance and security checks of doctors, especially women.

DPO Hyderabad Ghulam Nabi Memon and SP City Qamar Raza Jaskani visited the hospital and held a meeting with Medical Superintendent Dr Abdul Jabbar Shaikh and others. Doctors doing their post-graduation (PGs) had asked the administration to ensure their security.

These doctors, both male and female, briefed the meeting of problems confronting them because of lack of security.

They spoke of the aggressive attitude of people attending their patients and some even trespassed into labour room in few instances. Doctors declared that to continue treating patients in such a hostile atmosphere was next to impossible.

Lady doctors, particularly gynaecologists are harassed during night duties as loiterers enter into their wards and misbehave by whistling and trying to make advances. Their complaints to MS could not improve the situation. A group of PGs also raised this issue during a press conference of the health minister at the Civil Hospital Hyderabad.

Some PGs feel the hospital MS is being misguided in terms of hospital’s affairs by some additional MSs although he was trying to improve things.

“I believe that there are some black sheep in the administration and they don’t want to bring improvement in hospital’s environment”, said a doctor.

DPO Memon promised doctors and hospital administration of ensured availability of police force at the proposed police picket round-the-clock.

He, however, said that the hospital administration’s private and unarmed security staff should also work in coordination with policemen.

The DPO said that police picket would soon be established and he requested hospital MS to provide a telephone connection at the picket so that in case of any mishap police force could be informed.
