NAWABSHAH, Nov 25: A partial strike was observed here on Tuesday against rising crimes in the city on the call of Kiryana Merchant Association.

Shops in some areas remained closed but those at Masjid Road, Chakra Bazaar, Sarafa Market, Cloth market and Liaquat market remained open.

Grocery merchants and other traders took out a rally and staged a demonstration opposite the press cub against the increasing crime. The rally started from Lal Building road and terminated outside the press club. Protesters were carrying banners and placards and raising slogans against the increasing crime.

Office-bearers Kiryana Merchant Association, Sattar Qureshi, Shafi-ur-Rehman Jadoon and others said that the crime was constantly rising in the town and adjoining areas with the number of shop-looting incidences, motorcycle and mobile snatching and theft cases reported during last couple of weeks.

They said that police had failed to arrest criminals and recover the looted items. They said that Nawabshah was the hometown of President Asif Ali Zardari and some forces were trying to defame him.

They demanded of the government to take notice of the increasing crime and restore security by posting professional police officers at police stations.

SPLA demands: The Sindh Professors and Lecturer Association, Nawabshah chapter has demanded of the government to accept their charter of demands.

A meeting held on Tuesday at Sachal Sarmast College said that they had been demanding regularisation of ad-hoc lecturers, promotions, move-over and promotion of librarians.

It demanded upgradation of colleges and provision of facilities equivalent to that of university teachers.
