KHANEWAL, Nov 23: A fire broke out in a cotton factory on Shantinagar Road, about 8-km from here on Sunday noon, reducing hundreds of bales to ashes.
Saddar police said the fire broke out at 1230 hours near main warehouse of Akhlaq cotton and ginning factory, which gripped the entire area where hundreds of cotton bales were lying. The factory administration with the help of police called Khanewal fire brigade, which could not control the blaze. Later, Rescue 1122 from Multan was called which extinguished the blaze.
“I cannot tell exactly about the cause of the fire, but the loss will be in millions,” Saddar sub-inspector Muhammad Nusrat said. No casualty or injury was reported.
GANG BUSTED: The district police claimed on Sunday to have busted a seven-member inter-district gang that committed robberies in connivance with Lahore police constables.
According to a press release issued by Khanewal DPO Muhammad Kamran Khan, Mumtaz alias Mumtazi (ringleader), Raza Bhatti, Irfan Sial, Kazim Bhatti, Abdul Rashid, Mehr Abid and Sajjad Farid arrested from Tulamba town of Mian Channu tehsil, have confessed to 20 incidents of robbery, mobile snatching and theft in Lahore, Muzaffargarh and Khanewal districts.
The release said the accused committed crimes in connivance with four constables of Lahore police.
