SUKKUR: Teachers protest

SUKKUR, Nov 17: Some 60 male, female schoolteachers and other staff of Public School Sukkur held a demonstration and staged a sit-in against the management inside the premises on Monday for non-payment of 20 per cent increase in the salaries announced by the government.

They told journalists that the government announced a 20 per cent increase in salaries and pensions in Budget 2008-09, which were being paid to employees of federal, provincial, and district government departments since July-2008.

The teaching staff also boycotted their classes for three periods. They demanded of the government to take notice of it and direct school management for making immediate payments.

KILLED: A man was gunned down by armed people over old enmity between Chachar and Sundrani communities in Mirpur Mathelo on Sunday night.

Report said that the owner of Chachar hotel Haji Karim Bux Chachar was sitting in the hotel situated near police station Mirpur Mathelo when three armed persons on a motorcycle opened fire killing him on the spot.

The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem of the deceased.

According to area people, the killing was the result of old enmity between Chachar and Sundrani communities.

Neither a case was registered nor any arrest made till filing this report.
