LAYYAH, Nov 3: Ten bogies of a Karachi-bound goods train derailed at the Layyah railway station on Monday.
The 58-bogey goods train arrived at Layyah at 6am for a brief stop at platform no 2. After five minutes, when the train resumed its journey, its 42 bogies passed the railway platform but the 43rd bogie came off the track also derailing the following nine bogies loaded with cement. Some of the bogies collided with the platform damaging it partially.
Permanent Way Inspector Mukhtiar Ahmed told Dawn that due to wheel jam of the bogie No 42 and negligence of the driver, other bogies were derailed.
Station Master Muhammad Ashraf said the rail line at the railway yard was weak due to which goods train was derailed. The derailment, however, did not disrupt traffic as the staff cleared the rails immediately.— Correspondent
