11 militants killed in Bajaur

KHAR, Oct 26: At least 11 militants were killed and six others injured by security forces during Operation Sherdil in different parts of Bajaur Agency on Sunday.

Officials claimed that the forces were advancing on areas still controlled by militants.

Heavy artillery and helicopter gunships shelled suspected hideouts of militants in Charmang, Chinar, Babara and Kohi areas of Nawagai, and Sarlara, Zorbandar and Tang Khatta of Khar tehsils.

According to sources, five militants were killed in artillery and mortar shelling by the forces after an attack on a checkpoint in Tang Khatta, seven kilometres from Khar, late on Saturday night. Six militants were killed in helicopter and mortar attacks in Charmang, Chinar and Kohi.

The security forces destroyed several vehicles, bunkers, tunnels and other hideouts.

Troops continued advancing to the northwest and southwest of Lowi Sam, which had been cleared of militants on Saturday.
