Release of bonded labourers sought

Published October 26, 2008

MIRPURKHAS, Oct 25: Dozens of farmers and representatives of various social organisations, including Hari Mazdoor Group, HRCP, Naujawan Sindh Samaji Sangat, Labour Party and others staged demonstration outside local press club here on Saturday to protest against police failure to recover remaining 75 bonded labours who were still in the alleged illegal confinement of an influential landlord of Sanghar.

Speaking on the occasion, Kanji Rano Bheel advocate, coordinator HRCP core group district Mirpurkhas, Wajid Leghari, Ghulam Qadir Mirani, Sarwan Kumar and others lamented that despite continued protest for ten days outside the local press club, police have failed to recover 75 detained bonded labours from the illegal captivity of the landlord.

They deplored that few days back, an FIR was lodged with Nauabad police station, Sanghar district, against the landlord and his henchmen but police had not yet arrested any of the accused as they were freely roaming about with the investigation officer.

They sought protection to the released bonded labours and ensure recovery of remaining 75 bonded labours from the illegal confinement of the influential landlord.
