ISLAMABAD, Oct 23: A private mobile company has cancelled about 500,000 connections due to non-registration of SIMs.

The step has been taken keeping in view the deteriorating law and order situation in the country and instructions from a Senate Standing Committee to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) not to issue SIMs without proper verification of the subscribers.

“We have been closely following PTA guidelines. No new SIM is being issued without proper verification,” said a Telenor official Syed Hasnat Masood at a press conference on Thursday.

To a question, he said the imposition of new taxes has slowed down the growth of whole sector, he said.
