LARKANA, Oct 21: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the provincial government is making efforts to boost cultural and tourism activities in the province.

He was speaking here on Tuesday at the inauguration of an open-air theatre constructed at a cost of Rs32 million. The chief minister said that the government had undertaken massive development work at Gorakh Hill Station. Initially, drinking water facilities were provided at the place and soon electricity would also be made available to the area, he said.

He hinted at making allotments of plots at the hill station soon so as to develop the area. Pointing towards the deteriorating state of Moenjodaro, he said that being the chairman of the Moenjodaro committee he would put in efforts to effectively preserve and conserve the archaeological site from further ruining. He said that committee’s task was to develop the site and attracting the tourists.

It was the need of the hour to redouble the efforts of saving the Indus valley civilization; he said adding that concrete indigenous efforts were required to preserve the civilization from further decay.

Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Sassui Palijo said that the open-air theatre had been named after the slain PPP chairperson, Benazir Bhutto.

She said that the Sindh government was in touch with the federal government and the Unesco for funds so that necessary conservation and preservation work could be initiated at Moenjodaro.

She said that a museum would also be established in Larkana. This museum would be constructed adjacent to Shahnawaz Bhutto Memorial Library and the preparation of PC-I was in progress, she said.

Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that the PPP government was committed to implement the plans and promises of its slain leader, Benazir Bhutto.

Later, the chief minister along with Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro and Ms Palijo offered condolence with the district and sessions judge, Larkana, Basheer Ahmed Khoso, over the demise of his brother.

They also went to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto and offered fateha at the graves of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, Mir Murtaza Bhutto and Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto.

The chief minister also reviewed the ongoing development work at the mausoleum of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
