Ali, Habiba win squash titles

HYDERABAD, Oct 20: Third seed Ali Bokhari and top seed Habiba Khan claimed the boys and girls U-15 titles in the Hasan Musa Squash Championship at the Hyderabad Gymkhana on Monday.

Ali of Punjab upset top seed Faraz Mohammad of the PAF in the final 3-0 in just 45 minutes while Habiba of Sindh took mere 26 minutes to overcome second seed Riffat Khan of Punjab 3-0 in the girls’ U-15 decider.

Habiba started the match with a deficit of 2-7 but then recovered remarkably to level the game 7-7 before winning it 9-7. In the second game she, displaying outright domination, outgunned Riffat 9-0. In the third and final game she took an early lead of 4-1 at 7-8 Riffat saved two match balls but Habiba finished with 9-7 to win the title.

Girls’ U-15: 1-Habiba Khan (Sindh) bt 2-Riffat Khan (Punjab) 9-7, 9-0, 9-7.

Boys (final medals standing):

Ali Bokhari (Punjab) gold; Faraz Mohammad (PAF) silver; Bilal Zakir (PAF) and Saad Shahid (Sindh) bronze.

Girls (final medals standing):

Habiba Khan (Sindh) gold; Riffat Khan (Punjab) silver; Ayesha Zafar (Sindh) and Mahrukh Sheikh (Sindh) bronze.
