SUKKUR, Oct 14: Scores of workers of Qadirpur gas field accompanied by activists of different political parties observed a token hunger strike at the bus stand in Ubauro on Tuesday in protest against proposed privatisation of the gas field.

Talking to journalists, the protesters said that the gas field was an asset not only for the people of Sindh but also for the country. Its privatisation would render hundreds of workers jobless, which was neither in the interest of country nor in the interest of local people, they said.

They said that the workers, political activists and local people would lay down sacrifices to save this national asset from falling into the hands of private industrialists.

They said that an action committee would organise demonstrations and hunger strikes in different cities and towns and in this connection token hunger strike would be observed in Ghotki on Oct 16.
