KARACHI, Oct 7: Workmen Union (CBA) of the United Bank Limited (UBL) has alleged that its president, Tufail Ahmed, had been kidnapped and tortured by one of the bank’s officers and his associates.

Office-bearers of the union led by Saleem Shaikh told a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday that an FIR had been lodged at the police station concerned against the Hyderabad-based officer, Abdul Ghafoor Brohi, and his associates but the police were not arresting them.

Alleging that Tufail Ahmed had been kidnapped and tortured for more than 24 hours, he demanded immediate arrest of the nominated accused. He said workers would stage demonstration across the country if the demand was not met.

Habibuddin Junaidi (Habib Bank), Liaquat Sahi (State Bank), Saeed Ghani (MCB), Asif Hayat (HBFC), Shahid Naqvi (ABL) and other labour leaders, present at the press conference, expressed solidarity with the UBL union.
