Two minors die in roof collapse

OKARA, Sept 22: Two children were killed when the roof of their house collapsed in Purani Sabzi Mandi area on Monday.

Rashida Bibi, her four-year-old daughter Wajeeha and one-year-old infant Mohammad Ismail were present in their double-storey house when the wall of under-construction neighbouring house collapsed due to windstorm. The debris of the wall fell on their roof which also caved in, killing both the children on the spot. Locals, however, rescued the mother.

The windstorm followed by rain uprooted several trees and electricity polls, disrupting electricity transmission.

Wapda staff were trying to restore power in city areas including Tehsil Road till the filing of this report.

Robber: Three robbers shot the gunman of a filling station dead and injured the cashier during a robbery bid near Akhtarabad on GT Road on Sunday.

The robbers stormed the filling station at Sehr timings, took cashier Muhammad Iqbal on gunpoint and started collecting the money.

Meanwhile, security guard Mushtaq tried to rescue the cashier on which robbers shot at them, killing Mushtaq on the spot. Iqbal also sustained bullet injuries and was hospitalised. The police started investigations.

TIMBER THEFT: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has registered a timber theft case against forests department officials after a huge cache of timber stolen from department’s Bahawalpur range was recovered from Okara.

Bahawalpur forest guard Abbas lodged a timber theft case against department officials Noman, Yar Muhammad, Abdul Rashid and their accomplices Javid Iqbal, of Chechawatni, and Yasin, of Okara. The ACE Okara seized the stolen timber and registered the case.
