KARACHI, Sept 11: Sindh Minister for Information Shazia Marri has said that it is true that public representatives have been provided police escort and argued that it is necessary because of the nature of their assignments.

In her statement, Ms Marri said that it was imperative to weigh the actual requirement for the escort and this had already been conveyed to the authorities concerned by the home department.

“The home department ensures that no unnecessary police force is deployed,” she said, pointing out that all unsanctioned and unauthorised guards had since been withdrawn.

The minister said that the public representatives not doing operational duties should ensure withdrawal of their own police escort.

“Each individual on security duty will be accounted for and verified by the CCPO Karachi,” she said.
