KARACHI: Prof Ahsan remembered

KARACHI, Sept 11: A condolence meeting held at the Adamjee Government Science College on Thursday paid homage to Prof Syed Riaz Ahsan, the president of Sindh Professors and Lecturers’ Association (SPLA) who passed away here on Monday.

The meeting, presided over by principal of the college Prof Nasir, adopted a resolution that urged the government to name the Government Degree College for Science and Commerce, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, after the deceased professor’s name in recognition of his valuable services to the teachers community. Prof Ahsan was posted at the college.

A similar resolution was passed at another condolence meeting held under the auspices of the SPLA, Karachi region. Ather Hussain Mirza presided over the meeting.

Participants of the meeting eulogized the services of the late professor towards the welfare of the teachers community in what they described as the SPLA’s long and arduous struggle. They paid tribute to Prof Ahsan for his efforts towards the promotion of education and for the rights of teachers.

His efforts had brought professors and lecturers of the entire country to a single platform, they noted.

Prof Ahsan’s sister, Dr Rashida Qasim, registrar of the Karachi University Prof Raees Alvi, Prof Manzoor Hussain Chishti, Prof Liaquat Aziz Solangi, Prof Iftikhar Mohammad Azmi, Dr Qaiser Sajjad of the PMA, Dr Abid Hussain, Prof Yasin Shaikh, Prof Taj Joyo, Prof Siddiq were among those who attended the meeting.
